Chile stretches about 4300km, which is approximately over half of South America. I love how it starts with some of the worlds driest deserts at the top transforming into massive glacial fields at the bottom. More intriguing tho is that the centre is filled with a combination of huge volcanoes, temperamental geysers, stunning beaches, refreshing lakes and rivers and countless mesmerizingly different islands.
The capital of Chile is Santiago de Chile, founded by the Spanish Conquistador Pedro de Valdivia on February 12, 1541. It is located in the center of the Santiago Basin, a large bowl-shaped valley consisting of broad and fertile lands surrounded by the lush Andes Mountains full with unique fauna and flora.
Considering this, there are an extensive network of beautiful nature hikes and bike tracks one can follow discovering an amazing array of colourful small birds. I love how it has the opportunity to be not only a holiday but a great fitness workout! There are also gorgeous ski resorts to the east of Santiago and delectable wineries in the plains west of the city. I always like having my creature comforts close at hand which Santiago allows for. It is one of Latin America's most modern metropolitan areas, with extensive suburban development, dozens of shopping centres and impressive high-rise architecture.
Who doesn’t like to party and dance the night away? I know I surely do! Santiago holds annual festivals to celebrate their Latin America culture, such as the Maquinaria festival.
I suggest soaking in some more culture by visiting the historical sites like the Fine Arts Museum, cultural and bohemian neighbourhood, Víctor Jara Stadium, Plaza de Armas central square and the Palacio de La Moneda government palace.
It’s definitely on the list of top 10 places to go!
