There is so much culture and history to visit and see in Finland, especially around the capital Helsinki.
If you love music as much as I do, I would suggest attending the annual Flow Festival which in my opinion is one of the most urban and unique music festival held in the country. It holds an astounding 16,000 people across an area of approximately 3 hectare. Talk about an enormous party!
Take in some history by visiting the Helsinki Natural History Museum which features a dinosaur just over 10 meters long! This is only one of the seriously impressive things you’ll get to see inside. Next stop would be the cultural Helsinki Museum of Contemporary Art known for its great interpretations of artistic and cultural creations. The architecture of the building alone will draw you in!
If you hunger for an extra dose of culture and history, I’d strongly advise stoping over at the UNESCO World Heritage Suomenlinna Sea Fortress. It is a stunning inhabited sea fortress built across six islands. It has numerous tunnels to explore and over a 100 cannons and cannon barrels to locate.
I know most people don’t particularly like the cold and hence winter, but trust me it is definitely worth going to Finland in the winter!Since, if you do, you can visit Kemi in northern Finland famous for building theworld’s biggest snow castle. Every year a 20 meters, three stories high, or even 1,000 meter long snow castle is built, which is bound to resurrect the 5 year old kid in anyone! I’m thinking gigantic snowball fight…
You must also stay at The Hotel Kakslauttanen. You can have your pick of staying in the luxurious log cabins, lovely queen suites, honeymoon turf chambers, magnificent glass igloos or the truly unique snow igloos! Best part is no matter what you pick, you’ll have a stunning room which is nice and toasty warm that comes with a fantastic new memory for life!
It’s definitely on the list of top 10 places to go!
